Welding tip sensors

In addition to regular checks of the weld current, dynamic resistance or electrode squeeze force, modern systems for monitoring the major weld parameters shall also include the solution to evaluate the correctness of the tip re-shaping operation performed by electric or pneumatic tip dressers. The solution we would like to recommend is designed to check the quality of the reworked surface of the welding cap directly after the dressing operation.

Depending on the station program configuration or Client’s requirements, the installed sensor coupled to the PLC can trigger the following actions in case a bad quality tip is detected: pre-fault signal can be generated, tip dressing operation can be repeated or station stopped.
The interpretation of the sensor signals can be also used to plan maintenance activities like e.g. general inspection of the tip dresser operation or replacement of the shaping heads.
